Overthinking
Wednesday, Jan. 19th...Cathy's guest is the author of the book Women Who Think Too Much. Dr. Susan Nolen-Hoeksema is on the faculty in the psychology dept. at Yale. She says that women are more likely than men to fall into overthinking and remain stuck there. Even minor events can send many into distress. For example, the boss makes a sarcastic remark to you and you spend days worrying about what he or she meant; a friend makes a comment about your weight and you get mired in thoughts about how you look and how insensitive the friend is; your spouse doesn't kiss you goodnight enthusiastically so you're up all night wondering what this means for your marriage. We'll find out how to escape from overthinking!

Quitting Smoking
Dr. Scott Shurmur, Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UNMC will be Cathy's guest to discuss smoking cessation. For the 18.4 percent of Nebraska residents who smoke, Dr. Shurmur shares ideas to create a plan to quit. Each year there are approximately 2,300 smoking-attributed deaths in Nebraska, and an estimated 280 non-smoking Nebraska residents die prematurely from secondhand smoke.
