Thyme Cough Syrup

This homemade remedy was featured on our show with Dr. Tierona Low Dog, author of the book Healthy at Home, which contains lots of excellent home remedies. She is a well-known physician in the field of integrative medicine.

Thyme Cough Syrup

Makes 1 cup (250mL)

2-4 tablespoons fresh thyme or 1-2 tablespoons dried

1 teaspoon  lemon juice, or more to taste

1 cup filtered water

1/4 cup honey, preferably raw and local OR 1/4 cup maple syrup for a child under 12  months of age​

Directions: Pour near‐boiling water over thyme and steep, covered, for 10‐15 minutes. Strain. Add honey and lemon juice. Refrigerate for up to 1 week. For children: take 1 to 2 teaspoons every 2 to 3 hours, as needed. Teens and adults can take 1 to 2 tablespoons every 2 to 3 hours, as needed.
